Here’s the newest vintage of the Kirkland Chianti Classico hitting stores now.
We had a little surprise with a Kirkland Chianti Classico Gran Selezione making a debut in Costco last month. While priced a little higher than the standard Chianti Classico that Gran Selezione was delicious and we’ve still seen it still lingering in stores, so keep an eye out.
Back to this Chianti Classico, readers will probably know it’s not our favorite Kirkland wine, and usually lands as a decent everyday pizza or spaghetti night wine. This year included, although a slight step up from the last vintage in our opinion.
Price stayed the same at $8.99 which is good because it had crept up from $7.99 a couple years back and the quality was staying the same or even going down in some cases.
Here are our reviews going all the way to the 2013 vintage.

That 2020 vintage last year was pretty mediocre, but we think this 2021 brings a little bump up in quality which is nice.
It is a similar wine in many ways; pale ruby in the glass, subtle fruit on the nose, medium body with good acidity; flavor is mild, some cherry, blackberry; holds up in the finish.
It’s a good little bottle, but not a huge depth or flavor even close to the Gran Selezione, but it is a fraction of the price too.
We continue to find this as a good every day table wine, and at this price point it does a decent job of playing that role.

If you like a Chianti take a look and see if they have Cavaliere D'ORO 2017 at your Costco. It has the Death Star * here now and is priced $10.99 for close-out. I like it. JS gave it 91 for the 2017. Looking at the receipt it may be number 131019. Purple top bottle.
There is also another Chianti for $20 with organic grapes that I think is really, really good, but $20 is a very different price, of course. Cafaggio Chianti Classico Riserva 2018. Has great reviews. Costco #144.

Greetings, while I did not find this bottle during my last trip to Costco (1/31) I did find the Kirkland Willamette Valley Pinot Noir and looking forward to both trying it and (hopefully) reading your review on it.
Cheers!

I see that Villa Cafaggio Estate no longer is the producer of this wine unlike the last two vintages. This is indeed a pretty solid wine for the money. Thanks for another review!
