Well we bumped into the newest vintage of one of our favorite bottles and couldn't wait to try.
This marks the fourth vintage of this wine that we've found at Costco, and our ratings have been consistently very high.
We went 95 points on the 2019 vintage, another 95 points on the 2020 vintage, and 94 points on the 2021 vintage.
For us, this wine just checks every box, and it does it once again with this new 2022 vintage.
Costco kept the price the same ($46.99) year over year this time around. It was starting to creep up, and we wouldn't be surprised if it did as word continues to get out about this wine.
It is always a bit of a blend, and this vintage consists of 79% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Malbec, 6% Syrah, 4% Petite Sirah and 3% Petit Verdot.
In the glass, the wine is a medium ruby with tobacco, spice and herbs on the nose; it is medium bodied with velvety tannins; a nice flavor combo of red and dark fruit; love the balance here as we've noted in the past. Just a joy to drink.
We're going to keep our rating the same as last year at an enthusiastic 94 points. Another great effort and beautiful wine.
For anyone wondering about aging this wine, over the holidays we cracked open a 2020 from the cellar, and it was going strong, starting to settle and develop.
An ideal window is maybe 7-10 years. But these wines also drink so nicely today, we can't seem to keep them in our cellar.

I hunted for this wine all over Costcos in the Montgomery AL area. Could never find it. But finally found it at a local wine store (close to the Costco price, too) - is a great wine gift for your favorite neighbor. I’ll keep looking for one for me at Costco.
