We get a lot of pitches from wineries and PR folks to review wines from Costco, and accept them when we think it is going to be a wine that our readers will enjoy. This bottle was one of the more interesting ones that came our way.
This is a proprietary Napa Valley red blend that was crafted exclusively for Costco. So yes, we were eager to try it. On top of that, Costco's price is discounted for a couple weeks so we posted this as soon as we could.
The standard Costco price is $48.99, but through 9/20 it drops to $39.99 which is a fantastic deal for a wine of this caliber.

This wine includes a blend of various Bordeaux varietals including Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Malbec, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot and they come from the eastern hills of Napa Valley.
It reminds us in many ways of a classic Napa mountain wine like the ones we love from Atlas or Howell (at a fraction of the price).
In the glass, this wine is a medium ruby with aromas of dark berry fruit, tobacco and spice; it is full bodied with integrated tannins, super dry; flavors of blackberry, plum, black cherry; baking spice, dark chocolate into the chalky finish that lingers.
This is a real beauty and the kind of Napa red that is right up our alley. It sounds like it is available primarily in CA warehouses, with select distribution in other parts of the country.
At the standard price of $48.99, it's a strong buy. At the discounted $39.99, it's a steal for a premium Napa wine.
