This one caught us off guard. We were expecting a run of the mill Sangiovese, but couldn’t be more impressed with what’s delivered here and for only $13.89.
Morellino di Scansano is a wine region in Tuscany that’s not often talked about, but should be. These wines are predominantly (85%) Sangiovese (Morellino is the local name for it), and can include up to 15% of other local varieties.
Costco offers a small discount on the price at $13.89, compared to the online prices we found that hovered around $15.
As we get into the wine, we have a nice nose of perfume and dried red fruit; it smells young and fresh which it is; cherry flavor, a little spice, medium body, healthy dose of acidity, pepper and spice in the finish.
This wine is super pleasant all around. Very impressive once again as it all comes together, especially for such a young and fresh wine. This one is ready to drink now.
Overall, a great Costco find and a fantastic buy at this price. We intend to buy more if it’s still around.

Searched inventory at every Costco Club location in the Atlanta region and there was zero available. Disappointing!

These are nice wines in general. Not easy to find unless you have a wine store with a wine lover buyer. I’ll look for this in Nashville.
