2022 Kirkland Signature Columbia Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

2022 Kirkland Signature Columbia Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

We almost didn’t notice this was a new vintage of this bottle when we saw it. Since we just reviewed the 2021 vintage at the end of July, we weren’t expecting the next vintage until summertime.

We assumed these cases were remnants of the 2021 still lingering in stores. And that would be fine. This has historically been a good buy, especially considering the price has been under $10 for good quality Cabernet from the Columbia Valley.

But alas, we have the next vintage already. No complaints here. The price is the same at $9.79 which is amazing.

We’ve tasted and posted about every vintage of this bottle. Here are the scores for the past four vintages it’s been around.

2018 vintage: 88 points

2019 vintage: 88 points

2020 vintage: 88 points

2021 vintage: 87 points

So very consistent, high 80s, every vintage. Last year we brought it down just a hair noting that the wine was a little weaker in the finish. But we think this one is back in 88 point land with this latest vintage.

Tasting notes are similar to years past. In the glass it pours a deep dark ruby; nice dark fruit flavors, black cherry, blackberry, black raspberry, plum; a touch of toffee and oak in the finish.

This is a solid wine and a fantastic bargain at this price. We also love the Columbia Valley Red Blend from Kirkland, but didn’t see that in stores in 2024 (at least around us), which is a bummer.

Let’s hope that the timing for this one being a little different is a sign that the timing for that one might be too. We’d hate to see it leave the Kirkland portfolio.
