Of course we had to scoop up this new Barolo the minute we saw it, especially at that $23.99 price point. That puts it in striking range of the always amazing, and fan favorite, Kirkland Barolo which is $19.99.
Sometimes these inexpensive Barolos can be hit or miss, and luckily this one turned out to be a big hit, in our opinion, right there rivaling the Kirkland bottle.
We found online pricing for this wine around $40, so Costco is bringing it in at a very nice discount for us.
In the glass, the wine is a pale to medium garnet with perfume, red fruit and pepper on the nose; it is medium body, nice acidity; cherry, raspberry and licorice flavors into a dry, spicy finish with oak and more spice.
As the Kirkland Barolo sells through (we’ve still seen small amounts in a few stores), this is one to put on your radar. A very solid buy that we are scoring a 92, just one point below the last vintage of the Kirkland Barolo.
