We heard the new vintage of this bottle was out there, but it took a few weeks to arrive near us. Glad it finally did because we were getting concerned we'd miss it.
This is the third vintage of the Kirkland Vacqueyras, and it's a bottle we hope sticks around. Like the Cotes du Rhone Villages, it's a nice bang for the buck French red at a price you'll only find from Kirkland.
It did go up a little to $12.99 from $11.49 but that's still a super fair price in our opinion. You can see on the Costco placard Wine Enthusiast went 93 points on the prior vintage, which is massive score.
We went 88 points with a thumbs up, which is the same as we felt about the inaugural 2022 vintage. Will this new 2024 vintage keep the 88 point streak going? That's the question.
The varietal makeup is the same as the prior vintages: 80% Grenache, 10% Syrah, and 10% Mourvedre.
In the glass, it's a familiar wine; medium to dark ruby with aromas of dark fruit, herbs and spice; medium plus to full bodied with dark berry fruit; blackcurrant, blueberry, black cherry; earthy, herbal and spice notes into a solid finish.
The wine had a bit of heat on it upon open but that faded with just a little air. This remains a really good buy right now, offering a delicious wine at a fantastic Costco price.
Let's hope this one stays in the regular rotation of Kirkland bottles.
