A fun new find at Costco from a favorite producer. This is the Chardonnay from Wines of Substance, a Charles Smith wine brand.
You might know Charles Smith from his Kirkland K Vine series, and you might remember Wines of Substance from their very delicious CS Cabernet we tasted a while back.
Consistently, high quality wines at good prices, and this one follows suit. $11.99 at Costco compared to a retail price of $15. And you can see on the placard, it pulled down a few low 90 point scores from the critics, which is impressive.
We enjoyed the wine quite a bit, but not 93 points good. It pours a medium gold in the glass with a nose of citrus with a little oak; medium in body, good acidity; flavors of lemon, apricot, green apple; not immensely creamy or buttery which fits our tastes; light oak into a lasting finish.
A nicely balanced Chardonnay that you rarely find at this price point. We’d be buyers of this one again.

This had a weird funky smell to it. Opened 2 bottles, but this wasn’t pleasant for me. I’m guessing it’s just not for everyone.

I picked this up at the store in Delaware this week. It had a $2.50 discount, which made it taste even better.
