2012 Trapiche Broquel Cabernet Sauvignon

There’s nothing wrong with this Argentinian Cabernet that was on sale for $8.99 ($3 off). As far as inexpensive, sub $15 Cabernet goes, this would fall on the higher end in my opinion (and Wine Enthusiast gave it 90 points, if you’re a points person). There’s a little funk on the finish that I hope shakes off after a little more airtime.
The nose has a little smoke, heat and woody, whiskey barrel scent. Flavors of dark fruit, blueberry, blackberry, anise, tobacco that moves to more chocolate towards the finish. Herbal, peppery spice finishes this one up, which creates a long sticky, oaky aftertaste. Very South American, but that’s a good thing in this price range. It’s an interesting change of pace from what I’ve been enjoying lately. (and yes, after a little air, that funk did clean up).
