The New Year is really off to an amazing start with some of the new Costco wines we are finding, and this one is certainly among the best of the bunch.
This is an Haut-Medoc with the Cru Bourgeois designation, which is usually a good sign. When you find the right ones with these markings they can be absolute gems at great prices.
The vineyards at Chateau Larose-Trintaudon date back to the 17th century, and its location, while still being Haut-Medoc is right on the edge of the more prominent Pauillac and Saint Julien.
In fact, Chateau Larose-Trintaudon is located only 4.5km from the legendary Chateau Latour and other big hitters in neighboring Pauillac.
So scoring this bottle for $15.99 at Costco is a treat. It goes for upwards of $27 at some places online including Wine.com.
The wine pours a deep ruby with an earthy nose of ripe dark fruit; it is medium plus to full bodied; distinctive character with black cherry, blackberry and blueberry flavors; gentle tannins and good acidity; finished perfectly. Just what you want from a good Bordeaux.
The wine was tasty on the initial pour and only got better as it opened up with some air time. We'd recommend a 30 minute decant, at least.
Grab these while you can. This one will make a nice new addition to our Top Picks list.
