This is always a fun Kirkland bottle to explore, and we don’t see a lot of Zinfandel at Costco, at least in stores near us. We really would love to see the Seghesio Zin come back. It’s been gone for a long time, and was a favorite of the blog.
The price on this Kirkland Zin has stayed consistent from its introduction in 2016 with the 2013 vintage. $9.99, can’t beat that. And the wine has been solid year to year as well.
Here are our historical ratings, with the occasional missed vintage, which is unfortunate if it was produced; we just missed it or it didn’t hit stores near us.
2019 – 88 points
2018 – 89 points
2017 – 88 points
2015 – 90 points
2013 – 87 points
So we’ve been in the high 80s, even a 90 on this one over the years. And this latest release is pretty good as well.
In the glass it pours a medium purple with fresh dark fruit on nose; it is medium bodied and loaded with that jammy blackberry, black cherry, plum flavors you get in a good Zin. Little bit of spice towards the finish.
A perfect wine for BBQ or burgers, and a nice change from the usual varietals. We’re going to bring the rating down a point this year, but still land with a very respectable 87.

Got my first bottle of the new release today, and I have to say I'm really disappointed. This is pretty much the definition of a "fruit forward" wine in my opinion. Not at all a food wine, and not at all characteristic of a good Old Vine Zin. Sweet, for a red, and low on tannins. 87 points is a generous rating IMO. I won't be buying it again.

A very boring and bland wine. No flavor or character. Certainly not worth the $10....ive had better $5 wines. I'd rate this 2 star.

@Wes Scott,
Totally agree ! Not sure about the $5.00 bottle - I have never found one drinkable at that price point !

Haven’t tried this one yet but will have to! We are able to get the Seghesio here in coastal GA. If you ever get a change try the Seghesio Old Vine Zin, really good for the mid 30 price range, IMO!
