We were surprised to find this Portuguese white wine on Costco shelves, and also very happy as we love to see new varietals and regions to taste and explore.
This one is kind of a new varietal, mostly in name only as Alvarinho is genetically the same as Albarino in Spain. And they are frequently grown in similar environments so share similar characteristics.

Costco's price is $16.99 and the wine received 91 points from Wine Advocate. Retail price appears to be between $20-$25 and the wine has received low 90s scores across many recent vintages.
In the glass the wine is a pale yellow; flavors of peach, lemon, orange and grapefruit; high acid, medium body, some nice mineral notes throughout, crisp finish, a delight all around. Pair with some sunshine in these beautiful spring months.

We're rating this wine the same as another delicious, and similarly priced Spanish Albarino we recently reviewed and have still seen lingering in stores: 90 points, and a thumbs up. Glad to see a little something different grace the white wine aisles at Costco.

Do you have any insights on how Costco decides which wines to carry in different parts of the country?

I really think you should rename this blog the" Costco wine blog for Atlanta Georgia." Other than the Kirkland brands, you recommend I rarely ever see any of your other recommendations. I live in Central California and frequently check the Costco wine app to see if any of the wines you recommend are in my local store. Can't remember the last time I found one. I'm not blaming you. I'm just saying this blog really doesn't pertain to the country as a whole.

You say you are not blaming her, but you sound pretty bitter. There's quite a few wines that are Kirkland brand. The blog is 100% Costco found wines, the name makes sense. Doesn't pertain to the whole country? Okay, well you start contributing for California in that case.

I live in Florida and I frequently see the wines mentioned in the blog in the 2 local stores. Not always immediately but within a week or 2. Sorry your experience in CA has not been as relevant.
