A monster vintage (2022) and one of our favorite areas of Bordeaux (Margaux) come together quite nicely here for $38.99 at Costco.
We were a little surprised to see this one, especially in this vintage, and it marks the first time this wine has appeared at Costco that we've seen.
Costco's $38.99 price is pretty good considering a retail of closer to $44-$45.
An interesting blend led by Merlot comes in at 53% Merlot, 36% Cabernet Sauvignon and 11% Petit Verdot.
As we get into this wine, it's classic Margaux, a little restrained in its youth but built right, and delivering a lot of what you want in Margaux wine.
This wine is a medium ruby in the glass with earthy aromas of herbs and pencil shavings; it is medium plus to full in body with polished tannins; flavors of blackberry, black cherry and plum; notes of dark chocolate, strong finish that lingers.
This wine needs a couple more years in the bottle to really start showing itself, and it needs a lot of air time if you want to enjoy it now. Please decant this one a good bit before you get into or you'll miss what it's capable of.
A good showing now, but one that feels like we're drinking it too early. 91 points from us now, which will probably go up once it matured a little longer.

This same bottle has been offered in Costco (Grand Rapids, Michigan) for a few years for around $19.99. I have 6 resting now that are 2021 vintage. Too early to open when I bought them 2 years ago. In 2023, Costco had this in the 2020 vintage--(one of the best years in decades) for only $19.99! I bought many cases of those!
