Here’s a great value play you can score at Costco when you’re looking for a dependable red that won’t break the bank.
Usually in those cases, we fall to Spain or South America, but Portugal should never be overlooked. There are amazing wines coming out of there at prices that would be impossible to match for the quality anywhere else.
Here’s a case in point landing at Costco for $7.99, which is a few bucks less than you’ll find it elsewhere. But put this Portuguese red blend up against the Apothics of the world, and you’ll see a drastic difference in quality (and save a few bucks in the process).
The blend is Syrah, Touriga Nacional, Alicante Bouschet and Tinta Roriz (Tempranillo). The wine is dark in the glass with vibrant berry aromas; mostly dark fruit, blueberry, blackberry; juicy and fresh, medium plus in body; comes through solid in the finish.
Not a bad little package at all at a surprising price point. And with some air time it opened up even more. Give this one a shot.

I stopped drinking wine from grapes not grown organically to avoid glyphosate (Roundup) poisoning but this was one of the best values I enjoyed before then especially as they often had it $2 off. The best value was easily the Evodia Garnacha.
