Long time readers know that we love finding and tasting these “forgotten wines” that end up in the cheap seats (the rows of stacked wine boxes vs the wooden boxes).
We call them the forgotten wines because you can often find wines from lesser known, or talked about regions, stuffed in between the usual suspects. Sometimes these wines are from the US but they are mostly from France, Spain and Italy.
And we love finding them. The price is almost always under $15, and more often than not, they overdeliver for the money.
This one will hit home for some readers. The price was right at only $8.49 and Cotes de Bourg is usually a good, accessible, and value priced region of Bordeaux to explore.
The wine is a medium ruby in the glass, and medium in body; good dose of acidity; dark fruit, earthy and rustic is probably the best way to describe this wine. Also vegetal, bell pepper; dry finish.
We like this style, but it’s not for everyone. If you like rustic wines, this might be right up your alley. We’d recommend trying a bottle first before stocking up. It’s either your jam, or not. We can dig it.
