Its hard to find a Cotes du Rhone Villages wine for under $10. The obvious one that comes to mind is the Kirkland Signature Cotes du Rhone Villages, which we love and that is priced at only $6.99 (we, like many of you, are eagerly awaiting the next vintage of that wine to hit Costco stores and our best guess is that it will happen any day).
So the minute I saw a new CDR Villages drop in stores priced at only $8.99 I had to give it a shot. The wine is 50/50 Grenache and Syrah which is to be expected.
Fruity nose, with earth a little herb. In the mouth, there’s a bit of acidity, medium in body with flavors of dark fruit and anise but almost a sour cranberry towards the finish as the acidity bites in. An interesting wine, the more I indulged. Finishes super dry.
Overall, I’m putting this one right in the same ballpark as the Kirkland CDR Villages in terms of ratings, but I remember the Kirkland wine having a little more smoke and earth to it. I may try to pit these side by side sometime if I find the chance.
In short, a good wine to have on hand, a mid week drinker, or easy second or third bottle. Great price.
