This is quite the find in the Costco wine aisle, and just what we are looking for when picking wines to review for this site.
Here’s a Gran Reserva Rioja with nine years of age built in, and 94 points from Wine Enthusiast for $18.99. And it was amazing.
Gran Reserva is the highest designation in Rioja and means that the wines must be aged a minimum of 5 years (two in the barrel, three in the bottle) before release. So a lot of the work has been done for you already.
In the glass you can see early signs of age around the rim of the wine; great nose, floral, spice, and earth; Nice mature fruit, cherries, boysenberry; soft and delicate in the mouth; perfect finish. An absolute gem of a wine a fantastic price.
We’ll be adding to our Top Picks list, and can’t recommend this one enough.
