Here’s a big time Costco wine find on multiple levels.
First, we love Rioja because they just consistently overdeliver at amazing price points. This bottle is at Costco for only $9.99, but online it’s selling for everywhere from $15-$40.
Next up is the vintage, 2013. This wine has 10 years of age built in, ready to drink right now, no cellaring necessary on your part. Gotta love that.
Add in some big scores, from Suckling yes, but this wine also pulled down 93 points from Wine Enthusiast and Wine Spectator.
We learned that last bit after already tasting it, but it was immediately apparent where the high scores came from. This wine is superb and hard to believe it’s available for under $10.
It pours a nice medium ruby in the glass; dried red fruit, perfume and earth on the nose; it is medium in body; flavors of black cherry, plum, pomegranate, with some black tea notes; lasting finish.
This is a solid pick all around and a good entry point for those interested into tasting wines with a little age on them. An easy addition to our Top Picks list, and perhaps one of the least expensive bottles to ever appear on the list.
CostcoWineBlog.com Rating: 91 points (a Costco Wine Top Pick)

I have been getting the Costco Wine Blog for years, and never even ONCE have I found any of the recommended wines in Temecula. Very disappointed, but I know all Costcos cannot carry everything on the blog unfortunately.

I have seen wines in Bay Area are consistently a dollar less here on inexpensive wines. Highly competitive wine market in N.CA so perhaps that is why prices are lower. This sounds like something to try. In my opinion Suckling rates most things 2-3 points higher than the others, and in general their is rating escalation over the last 20 years.

Kennesaw does not have this but Dallas and Woodstock have stock.

Seems like a funny choice to review since it has a * indicating it won't be stocked and is not widely available.

Any of my fellow SoCal people find this one? Aged Rioja is an absolute favorite of mine, so I'm hoping for some good news. My local Costco in Huntington Beach doesn't have it. In general, I find them to be light on the Spanish wines.
