My string of inexpensive Spanish gems continues with this Tempranillo from the Ribera del Jucar region. This is a $13.99 wine at Costco that drinks with the elegance of something you’d normally pay $25-$30 for. I’m a big fan.
Nose is floral, a little perfume; tight tannins and a big body on this wine, leading me to believe another couple years of aging would bring even more elegance and softness to the wine. Red cherry with some dark fruit flavor, a little blueberry; towards the finish there are a lot of spice notes; at first it seemed like more cinnamon, then more nutmeg as the wine aired a bit. I felt the finish was particularly strong; it’s a dry, chalky lasting finish.
All around a very solid Costco wine for only $14. For fans of Rioja and Ribera Del Duero, this is a must buy. I imagine most other red wine fans will find something they enjoy here too.
