2014 Domaine Auvigue Pouilly-Fuisse Solutre

Here’s another White Burgundy hitting my Costco shelves for $17.99 that I was curious to try.  We recently reviewed the 2015 Joseph Drouhin Saint Veran which was right next to this bottle in the bins, and thought it was a great buy at only $16.

While this Pouilly-Fuisse is similar in price and style, we preferred the Saint Veran a touch more.  But both bottles offer a nice taste of French Chardonnay done right.  It’s worth noting that this Solutre bottle seems to be priced a lot more elsewhere.  Here it is on Wine.com for $30, so Costco’s price is pretty amazing at almost half that.

Does anyone else find the back of the label to be misleading upon first glance? I was surprised to turn the bottle over and read “Napa, CA, 100% Chardonnay.” But obviously that’s where the importer is located.

The wine inside is pretty tasty, well balanced Chardonnay that lets plenty of fruit through with touches of spice and crisp acidity.  Pours a slight bronze, medium in body; citrus flavor with peach and key lime pie notes; lingering finish.

Like many White Burgundies, it’s a Chardonnay for people who love Chardonnay as well as those who typically don’t.  This is just a quality, well made and well balanced wine.  I’m giving the edge to the Drouhin noted above, but both of these wines are fantastic, under-$20 choices for all white wine fans.
