This red blend from France's (Southern) Languedoc region is an excellent wine and it was only $9.99 at my Costco store. It is a blend of Syrah and Grenache, two varietals that both thrive in the southern parts of France. The wine is drinking at a perfect point right now, having spent a little time developing its full character, which really comes through.
The nose is super fresh, floral and spicy; really started to leap out of the glass after a few hours. It is medium to full in body with vibrant red and dark fruit flavor, a little plum, leather, a touch of sweetness, and some white pepper, leading into a sticky, dry finish. A nice food wine, and a strong value for $10. I don't think you can wrong with this wine. We will be adding it to our Top Picks list given its extreme value.

Have you tried the 2009 vintage of this wine? My local costco (los angeles) has been selling it for a couple of months now, and I also think it's an outstanding value. Would be curious to hear your thoughts on 2009 vs. 2011 if you happen to find an 09 bottle, which was a great year

Thanks for the comment. I have not seen the prior vintages of this wine at my Costcos but I will definitely keep an eye out.

My mistake--it's not quite the same wine. What I have been drinking is also a Gerard Bertrand, but it is called "La Clape" and is a blend of 50% Syrah, 35% Carignan, and 15% Mourverde. Running around $11 at LA-area Costcos. Very nice value

This wine is available in the Bellingham store for the same price. It was the last of the four wines I picked up and was going to try. I am a big Syrah and Grenache fan. It is also my first Languedoc wine. Will give my 2 cents this weekend. Thanks for the tasting note.

Red and dark fruits on the nose, but not overly aromatic. On the palate, dark plum, a tinge of iron, lead, tobacco and leather. Finishing with a hint of spice, toastiness and a southern Rhone savoriness. Good acidity and well balanced wine. I think 89 points would be fair. A great deal for $9.99.
