2016 St. Supery Sauvignon Blanc

2016 St. Supery Sauvignon Blanc

I typically find St Supery wines to be good values and this one is no exception.

Last summer I was a little down on (and tired of) Sauvignon Blancs and became much more interested in other white varietals.  But I’ve turned a corner, as some these new world Sauvignon Blanc are starting to get interesting again.  Or maybe a little time away helped refresh my palate for them.

When I really became interested in St Supery wines, especially their estate wines, is when I drove through Napa on Highway 29.  It’s impossible not to notice who is located next to who.  St Supery is right in the heart of everything, across the street from Inglenook with Peju and Cakebread as close neighbors as well as one of my favorites, Nickel and Nickel, who is also right down the road.

So the winery’s location is awesome, as is their Elu red blend and anything with their Dollarhide label on it, but how’s this standard estate Sauv Blanc?

Young, fresh and juicy; loaded with lemon, lime and grapefruit flavor; crisp on the finish with more citrus notes and a little tanginess.  Overall, good juice for the money.

This wine would be great with scallops or other white fish, and I think it would be even more enjoyable on a super hot summer day instead of the semi-chilly Atlanta winter day we tasted it on.  But it reminds you of summer on every drink so hopefully Costco keeps it in stock long enough for us to enjoy more then.

Costco’s price is very good at $15.99, when you figure the wine retails for $22, and is $20 at Total Wine.  I think white wine and Sauvignon Blanc fans alike will enjoy this one.
