This is one of those insta-purchase Costco wines for me. I’m a big fan of Frog’s Leap wines, have visited and greatly enjoyed the winery, and am sitting on some nice Rutherford Cabs from them that are aging in the cellar. I’d had the 2013 Sauv Blanc at a dinner a few months back and enjoyed it; so obviously was happy to see this bottle at Costco. It’s price of $18.99 is decent, but not mind blowing. You can find this wine elsewhere between $17-$20, but if you see it at Costco and want to enjoy a nice Napa Sauvignon Blanc, this is a good one for you.
This is an acidic and tarty Sauvignon Blanc, with a bit more kick than I remembered. But I like that. There’s a little personality in the tanginess. The wine is crisp and fresh, citrus flavors with some grapefruit/sour apple, wrapped in a wine with a bit more body than other Napa Sauvignon Blancs. I have found this now twice to be an enjoyable food wine. Tonight we made a vegetable stir fry to enjoy with it, and after tasting its tanginess and tart, I spiced up the dish a tad to lively things up.
I’m going to rate this one right alongside the somewhat similar 2012 Stags Leap Winery Sauv Blanc, and also put on the Top Picks list. Have fun with this one.
