Here’s a new Sauvignon Blanc hitting Costco stores that’s a fresh change of pace. That’s because it’s from South Africa, a region we don’t see too often in the Costco wine aisles.
And that’s a shame because there are some delicious wines coming out of there, white, rose and red, frequently at very good prices.
Speaking of price, Costco is bringing this bottle in at $11.99 which is a huge discount from what we see online where retail is around $30, and online outlets are selling it for $20. Snazzy label design too with a color matched wax seal.
The wine is really delicious. Perfect for fans of the New Zealand grassy style but who prefer a little toned down acidity. This wine is nicely balanced, and a lot of fun to drink.
It pours a light straw in the glass with aromas of citrus fruit, wet rock; in the mouth are generous flavors of gooseberry, green melon, and grapefruit; medium in body, and again nice, easy acidity, not overbearing. Finish is pleasant and lingers on.
We’re big fans here, even more than we expected from of this wine. And the $12 price is amazing for such a tasty bottle. Perfect for the warm weather.
We wish we had bought a few more bottles, and hope to see more great wines like this from South Africa in Costco in the future.

"Aroma's of wet rock". Sounds delish. Wine snob detector going off the charts...
