2022 King Estate Pinot Gris

Published: Jun 29, 2024 by Editor ·

This is a Costco staple white wine that we know a lot of readers have enjoyed. And we have too; we just haven't reviewed it on the site in a very long time (2012 vintage).

King Estate is a solid Oregon producer; their Acrobat Pinot Gris was a Costco mainstay for a while, and was priced a few bucks lower that this bottle.

Ratings have been pretty good too as you can see on the Costco placard. The $14.99 price is a good discount off the $20 retail price for this wine, but a quick online search shows it available for $14.99 at Total Wine. So no real cost savings to buying it at Costco.

In the glass the wine is a medium straw color; subtle nose, light citrus fruit with medium body; flavors of lemon, white peach, pear; gentle acidity; crisp finish that lingers a bit.

Very enjoyable, and food friendly; we just wish Costco's price would beat (not match) some of the other outlets.

Just a quick comment. There are no Total Wine stores in Ohio. Also, unless you live near a major city, there may be no independent wine stores. And, if no Ohio distributor brings in a wine, we can't get it--period. So, many of the wines reviewed here do not come to our Costco. Wine.com isn't the answer either. It has to abide be the same laws.

There are no Total Wine stores in Ohio. Unless you live near one of Ohio's big cities (e.g., Columbus), you may not have access to an independent wine store. AND unless an Ohio distributor brings in a wine, you can't get it. Even wine.com agreed to the Ohio distributor rule in order to do business in Ohio. (Yes, you can mail order from a small winery if they have a license to sell in Ohio). So...Costco...and I would say we see maybe 30%a of the wines you feature (Costco stores in Ohio seem to vary in what they get via the corporate system of distribution.)

King Estate created acrobat but they sold acrobat several years ago.

Just my 2c, but for $14.99 there are a lot of Sauvignon Blancs at Costco that I would prefer to any pinot gris
