2020 Madame de Beaucaillou Bordeaux

2020 Madame de Beaucaillou Bordeaux

Very interesting find here, and we had to do some poking around online to figure out the full story.

One of our all time favorite wines and favorite properties in Bordeaux is Ducru-Beaucaillou. We had the opportunity to visit and meet with their team a few years back, and every single thing about the winery, people, grounds, and the wine is top notch.

They produce a second wine called La Croix Ducru-Beaucaillou which is much less expensive then the primary estate wine (which can run $350+), but still in the $75 range, and both are consistently stunning.

We didn’t know they had this new label for some of their vineyards outside the immediate Saint Julien area where the winery is located. This wine is made from different vineyards the family owns in nearby Haut-Medoc.

Costco’s price is $21.49, and that compares to around $25 most other places we found. The blend tilts towards Merlot coming in at 66% Merlot, 24% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Petite Verdot.

Deep ruby, almost black in the glass; a bit of that Bordeaux barnyard on the nose; mostly dark fruit, flavor some plum, blackberry, medium plus in body, and dry throughout. Nice acidity leads to a bone dry finish for this one. Mild oak. Good food wine.

What a surprise to see this one arrive at Costco. A fun new find for Bordeaux fans.
