After Spain, Portuguese red wines are one of my top go-to areas and we just don’t see enough of them at Costco, so this was a welcome site, especially at only $7.99.
I was also intrigued to learn that this wine was ranked #60 on Wine Spectator’s list of the Top 100 of 2017. That’s a good bonus, since of all the wine critics, I typically agree on the Spectator ratings more than others.
The blend is 30% Syrah, 30% Touriga Nacional, 30% Tinto Roriz and 10% Alicante Bouschet; some familiar grapes in here as far as the Portuguese reds go, and they came together nicely.
A bit of perfume on the nose, and aromatic overall; medium in body; loaded with dark fruit, spicy black cherry and blackberry, some mocha notes mid-palate, and an ok finish that dies out perhaps a little too fast, but again we’re only into this wine for $8 so it’s hard to expect much more.
I’m impressed at this price for sure. This is another good midweek drinker, alongside the Kirkland Rioja and Chianti, which are priced similarly and offer tremendous value right now in the warehouse.
I’m glad I came across this bottle, and hope you see it near you. I also hope this is an indication that Costco is adding some more Portuguese wines to the fold.
And note, Wine.com used to carry this wine, but they are out of stock. Their price was $24.99, which is the same as Spectator referenced in their list. So at $8, it’s a super value buy.

I was just at Costco here in AZ, and they're clearing it out at all the stores in the area - for just $4.97/bottle!!! I immediately drove to the nearest store and picked up 3 of the 4 cases that they had left. In hindsight, I should have grabbed them all. This wine would be a must-buy at $19.99, and at $8 and now $4.97 it's probably one of the best wine deals I've ever seen.

That’s crazy. Thanks for sharing. Hope I see that price at one of my stores.

This brings up a possibly useful fact: Tinta Roriz is the Portuguese name for the grape variety better known as Tempranillo in Spain and the U.S.

I found this wine n our local Costco in Chandler, AZ. I usually buy a single bottle to try and if we like it we but more. This is a real winner at $8. A case is coming soon, maybe 2.
