This is a lovely wine and a perfect example of the quality you can find in Spanish wines under $20 (this bottle was $16.89 at my local Costco). Clearly a winner for fans of Ribera and Rioja wines, but if you enjoy rich reds with perfect finesse and body, this one is for you.
On the nose the wine smelled a little dusty, some “library book” scents until it got air, then more oak and leather came through.
Great mouthfeel with flavors of dark fruit, black cherry and chocolate lead into a finish that is dry and lasting. Almost tastes like a nice Chianti at times. The 14% alcohol carries on after each drink.
At $17 this is a strong buy for red wine fans. It’s a super food friendly food too. This might be a good bottle to stash in my “mini Costco wine cellar” where I keep bottles that impressed so I can try them later after a little age. I plan to dig through those bottles soon and will report on what I discover.
For now though, this Ribera bottle will go on the Top Picks list. Check it out.
