Our Highest Rated Costco Wines of 2024

Published: Nov 2, 2024 · Modified: Jan 10, 2025 by Editor ·

Costco Wines of 2024

Hello Costco Wine fans. Today's that wonderful day of the year when we look back at the highest rated wines we tasted and reviewed from Costco during 2024.

In case you’re curious, here are links to this story from previous years: 2023, 2022, 2021, and 2020.

As any experienced Costco shopper knows, inventory moves fast, and that includes wine. It's likely many of these wines are not available in stores any longer.

But you never know what might show up again. And these are also just amazing wines that you may find elsewhere and want to explore so make a note.

So let's get into it, starting with a delicious aged Rioja we found last January.

2014 Vina Olabarri Gran Reserva Rioja

Under $20. 9 years of age built in. 94 points from Wine Enthusiast. 92 points from us. Lots to like here from this Rioja we hope to see in future vintages. [our review]

2021 Kirkland Signature Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon

The first Kirkland bottle to show up on the list this year was the wonderful 2021 Oakville Cabernet. Always a favorite of ours and readers as well, this was a very solid vintage that we rated 92 points. [our review]

2019 Canvasback Red Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon

This is Duckhorn's WA State property at Red Mountain. We love these wines and they remain off many people's radar. This one you can find all over the place. Costco's $35 price tag might be the best you'll see, but it's worth exploring even if you have to pay a few bucks more from another outlet. [our review]

2021 My Favorite Neighbor Cabernet Sauvignon

This is a bottle that seems to make frequent appearances on this list. We adore this wine every single year, and this 2021 vintage might be one of the best we've tasted. We rated this a huge 94 points. [our review]

2016 Bodegas Casa Primicia Vina Diezmo RV Reserva Rioja

This might be the least expensive bottle on this list, coming in at $11.99, but boy did it deliver the goods. 7 years of age. 94 points from Wine Enthusiast. Rioja Reserva. About as good as you will ever find for $12. [our review]

2020 Luis Duarte Rubrica Vinho Regional Alentejano

A monster red blend from Portugal that checks every box. Retail $45, Costco $25. 94 points from us. Portugal is on the up and up big time. [our review]

2022 Kirkland Signature Chateauneuf du Pape

We've tasted 13 vintages of this wine, and this 2022 vintage is one of the best. Great depth and complexity; drinks like a $50 CdP. We hope these are still lingering around out there, because it's one to stock up on, and the price remains an incredible $20. [our review]

2021 Kirkland Signature Suscol Vineyard Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

Another very delicious and notable Kirkland wine to add to this list. We are glad to see this one return, and glad to see the price stay under $20. 92 points from us, the best score we've given to any vintage of this wine. Big thumbs up. [our review]

2020 Kirkland Signature Barolo

Let's call it a Kirkland trifecta. The Kirkland Barolo also blew our minds with the 2020 vintage. Price remains $20 and this bottle has pulled down a 92 or 93 points score from us every vintage, making it among the highest rated Kirkland wines in the portfolio. [our review]

2018 Tapiz Black Tears Malbec

Big, bold Malbec that's absolutely delicious. We are happy to see this one return to Costco after a multi year hiatus. Retail price is $50; Costco's price is $39. Make note of this bottle if you want some of the highest quality Malbec out there at this price. [our review]

2019 Kirkland Signature Series Brunello di Montalcino

This is really starting to look like a special year for Kirkland wines. Here's another one that makes the cut with a 93 point rating from us, also among the highest we've ever given this bottle after tasting 9 vintages over the years. [our review]

2019 Cascina Boschetti Gomba Barolo

Here's another Barolo we immensely enjoyed this year, which we were surprised to see land at
Costco for only $24. It's right in the same ballpark as the Kirkland Barolo, so if that one is sold through, keep an eye out for this bottle. [our review]

And there you have it for 2024.

As we mentioned, this year marks quite a few Kirkland wines hitting the list at 92-93 points, which is great to see as well as seeing the prices on those wines staying consistent in this age of inflation.

In combing through all of our reviews, we also noticed a lot of wines from Italy and Spain, including two Riojas that made this list. Those two regions, along with Portugal, remain top choices for high quality wines at good prices.

Thanks for reading this far, and for following the site. Please post in the comments below if there are Costco wines you tasted this year that should be shared with all our readers. Cheers.

The 2021 Saint-Julien Bordeaux is at the Henrico Virginia Costco. I know everyone enjoys that, so just a heads up.

The Olarra Clasico Gran Reserve 2016
A real find with everything Rioja lovers want. Costco lists for $20 but it's been on sale for 12.99. I was happy to see it still available at Bradenton Costco (FL) this past week. Bought a case......

Thank you for the list! I tried a few of these and missed many.

There is a Kirkland Stags Leap Cabernet here in the SF warehouse now (505081).

From the list I really, really loved the Chateauneuf. Idiot me bought only one to try, then wanting more, only to realize it was gone next time I visited the store and then I read your review and kicked myself. I enjoyed the Brunello as well but the Chateauneuf I thought was better.

I really enjoy the Educated Guess Cabernet Oakville (1690314). I buy it when it has the $15 off of $41 (usually 2-3 times a year here in SF #144).

We also really like the J Vineyards Pinot Noir California blend of 3 CA Pinot Noir (1227215) for $17, much cheaper than WholeFoods or Safeway but a great wine in general.
