Kirkland Signature Helles Style Lager

Published: Dec 21, 2024 · Modified: Jan 10, 2025 by Editor ·

Kirkland Signature Helles Style Lager

Yeah, we know, not a wine but this is a Costco item that demanded exploration.

Occasionally, we'll review beer we find at Costco and as many of you probably can attest, they can really be hit or miss.

The Kirkland Signature Light Beer is one that became famous online for its low quality. It was discontinued in 2018 but you can still read some of the entertaining reviews on Untappd where it earned a 2.0 rating.

But this new Helles Style Lager from Kirkland is a whole different deal. The reason it appealed to us so much is because it is produced by Deschutes Brewery out of Bend, OR.

Deschutes is a top notch establishment that we've visited several times, and when we were living in Oregon back in the late 90's, it was the king of Oregon breweries at the time.

Anytime we see the classic Deschutes staple bottle, Black Butte Porter, it always bring back fond memories of relaxing with a burger and a beer after a day of snowboarding on Mt Bachelor.

Since Deschutes was willing to put their name front and center on the packaging, we couldn't wait to see what they could deliver. Plus we love Helles style lagers, and a 12 pack of this was $13.99; not too shabby.

The beer is a pale gold in the glass; it is slightly sweet, lightly hopped; malty and yeasty; well made with a great body to it; nice crisp finish.

Kirkland Signature Helles Style Lager

Really a solid beer. No wonder it won a gold medal at the 2023 Great American Beer Festival. Cheers.

I searched for it on the Costco app, and didn't find it in Birmingham, but will keep looking. The helles beers in their German variety beer packs are usually the best in the pack.

Purchase this baby in redding ca. Costco. Wow, you will like. Nice buy and you will be glad you face it a shot.

I would have passed on this were it not for your review. Bought today in Tampa and it is a very good beer! Just as described, clean, crisp, smooth. Very crushable. Tks for the heads up! Highly recommend.

I don't know what you all are talking about. I bought this today as an impulse buy. I won't use the language I want, but I'll just say it tastes nasty. Has a hideous lingering aftertaste. In order to properly describe my thoughts, it would involve profanity.

    Stay away. This stuff sucks

Supplies are starting to dwindle here in Tampa so I picked up three more 12 packs today. This is an excellent representation of the style!
