Here's a new Chianti Classico hitting Costco shelves that caught our eye. Regular readers know we adore these wines and find them to be tremendous values right now in the wine world. And this one is right on the mark.
Costco's price is $22.99 and that seems to be about the same as we found it online, so perhaps not a huge Costco discount this time around. But regardless of that, we're happy they turned us on to this bottle. It's one we absolutely plan to buy again.
We thought it was single vineyard Sangiovese and they say "single origin" on their website, but it looks to actually come from two vineyards.
Either way, this is terroir drive Sangiovese that is delivered simply and elegantly, making this the perfect bottle to bring to a dinner party or present as a gift. Or just enjoy like we did, all on its own. Pair with any cuisine that calls for red wine.
It pours a nice ruby in the glass, loaded with red fruit on the nose and in the mouth, mostly cherry, some plum; medium plus in body; plenty of spice and herbs, tight tannins with a healthy dose of acidity; grippy finish that is bone dry and lasts forever.
This is a very easy going wine that knows exactly what it wants to be. We're huge fans and could drink this almost anytime, with any food and anybody. We imagine this bottle will find favor with a lot of our readers.
