2010 Vega Moragona La Duna Tempranillo

Published: Apr 21, 2014 · Modified: Dec 23, 2016 by Editor ·

la duna 11_99 824737The string of Spanish gems continue with this bottle that rolls in at Costco for only $11.99. I knew my odds of picking a winner went up with the "single vineyard" marking on the bottle. And sure enough, this is an excellent wine for $12, besting most others in that price range.

This is a big, robust and dramatic Tempranillo, pulling off a smooth execution of its heftiness that few $12 bottles can. The wine is dark on the pour and full bodied in the mouth. Lots of leather, tobacco and black licorice on the nose and continuing onto the palate, surrounded by dark fruit, and a spicy, rich dry finish. The more air this wine gets, it just improves further. What a score for $12; pair this with anything, and you might want to buy more than one if you find it at this price.
