2018 Susana Balbo Malbec

Published: Feb 9, 2022 by Editor ·

Here's another limited time discount Costco wine find, that essentially knocks the price in half compared to its full retail of around $20.

Normally $16.99 at Costco, the limited time $6 off (until 2/13) brings it down to only $10.99. And this wine is pretty amazing. I'd jump on this while you can.

Here's a screen shot from Wine.com for this wine showing the ratings across a few different vintages. All 90's. Quite remarkable for a wine you can score for $10 right now at Costco. I only noticed this after I had tasted it, and my score fell right in line.

This wine pours a medium purple with a spicy, earthy nose; mostly dark fruit, blackberry, plum, some dark chocolate; there's toasty oak in the finish; really nice depth. The blend has some Cab Franc in it too (8%) which was a nice complement.

A seriously impressive wine that's hard to beat for $10. Grab these before this discount runs out, and add this wine to your list of go to bottles.

CostcoWineBlog.com Rating: 91 points (a Costco Wine Top Pick)

Purchased at Costco in: Jacksonville, FL (St Johns)

    The last three highlighted wines have not been available at my local Costco even though I visited the club the same day the wine was featured in your blog.
    It seems the only wines I can find consistently highlighted as a top pick are Kirkland Signature wines.

      @Kevin Mahon,

      that's kind of the understanding of this blog. Costco's distribution of their wines by region is apparently only known by Costco. Sometimes I find these wines presented here, but like you, there are more misses at my local Costco than hits. And the reverse is true - you'll find wines that Andrew will not. I still enjoy reading about the wines presented as it gives me ideas for the next Costco trip down the wine aisles.

        I totally get how frustrating that can be. In order to be truly independent, which is hugely important to the integrity of this site, we need to buy most all of the wines we feature ourselves and that limits what we can feature on the site. We did add some West coast reviewers who I hope continue to contribute reviews. More on them here http://costcowineblog.com//about-left-coast-wines/

      @Kevin Mahon, I have the same trouble, but I keep the ones I want to find in mind each time I visit. Sometimes, it takes a couple months. For instance, the Clos de Lunes White Bourdeaux blend didn't show up at my Costco (Near Kansas City) until 2 months later.

    Sadly, no luck in Atlanta.

      @dave, I did not find the wine either here in Brookhaven

    Picked up this one from Costco as the price was a great deal. Opened and cork disintegrated. Wine was rancid at first glass. Was very disappointed with it.
