Hi everyone. This marks our first "News" post.

So we added a new menu item to the top navigation for News. Here we will post major Costco wine news as it comes in. These posts will also be included in our 2X a week newsletter that we encourage everyone to subscribe to. So please share any new info you have.
OK, now on to this exciting new addition to the Kirkland wine portfolio. And we drove to 3 locations around Atlanta looking for this tonight and came up empty handed. Hopefully we can taste it soon.
A Vacqueyras. Love it. Rhone wine. Kind of a sibling to Gigondas. Costco price we heard is around $11.49. We can't wait to try.
We're assuming it's a GSM blend (Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre).
Pop some info in the comments if you've tasted it. Cheers.
Fraser says
I bought a case of it, it’s very good especially for $11.59. 80% Grenache, 10% each Grenache and Mourvèdre. Lots of cherry and interest warm herbs.
Brian says
@Fraser, Hello Fraser, Read above. I think you meant to say 80 Grenache, 10 each for SYRAH and Mourvèdre.
Thanks,
Brian
Tom says
We have it in Orange County, CA. Was waiting for your review to try it.
Scott says
Bought 5 bottles. Very smooth. Stumbled across it at the Costco in Superior, Colorado.
Buy as much as you can at the bargain Costco price.
Martin says
The only good thing about this bottle is the label. I thought it'd be similar to Chateauneuf-du-Pape given its main grape is Grenache but was immensely disappointed. I guess that's what you get for $12, so not really complaining but wouldn't recommend as a nice wine.
Bill says
@Martin, CdP is a totally different thing. Not to be compared.
Mercury says
@Martin,
Marty, if you want an Chateauneuf-du-Pape then you should buy one. Kirkland offers a winner at the $19.95 price. But give it some age, smarty.
Scott says
Just picked up another eight in Boston after trying one last week. Very smooth southern Rhone blend. Have been enjoying this region for about a decade, which also features Carignan (which imparts some minerality), so this was a nice variation. Bonus, Vacqueyras is next door to Chateauneuf-du-Pape. At $11.49 you can't go wrong for an everyday value wine. Costco item # 5296766.
Rockbell says
Interesting that Atlanta didn't have it yet. I got it in Birmingham about a month ago. Enjoyed it but haven't been back to get more. Probably too late now
Mark says
@Rockbell, nope picked up a bottle yesterday in bham.
Bernie says
A lot of cherry but very little darker fruit. There was a surprising amount of tannins. I would select the Kirkland Gigondas over this any day. I think it is worth the price but not worth more.
Allen Mabry says
Saw it last Thursday here in Dallas and bought 3 bottles. I opened one this evening. After 30 minutes in a decanter, I didn't really notice tannins. I kept a little in a glass and used VacuVin on the rest. First sip I noticed acid, then the rich cherry flavor. Very soft on the tongue and well balanced. Medium length finish. Cork says Guillaume Gonnet. I'll try to pick up a case tomorrow.
Steve says
Found this in Grand Chute, WI for $11.49. Plenty of dark fruit and black cherry. The finish was much longer than a typical $12 wine.
Rick says
Purchased today and opened right away. Excellent Rhone wine for price. Maybe a slight notch below the Kirkland Chateauneuf but not by much. Highly recommend.
Alan says
Bought it today at a Costco in Chicago suburbs. Haven't opened it yet. 80% Grenache, 10% each of Syrah and Mourvedre.
Allen Mabry says
I spoke too soon. After an hour it was too sweet for me, like blackberry jam, with no structure. I now rate it an 86 and will stick with the 2 bottles I have left. It went pretty well with a slice of reheated Costco cheese pizza. 😉
William MacDonald says
@Allen Mabry, Maybe put it down for a year or two and see what happens.
Roger says
Tried the Vaqueyras, found it to be a full bodied red, pleasant on the palate especially with food. Can’t describe it more that to say I will buy more to consume with a nice lunch or dinner.
Octoson says
Tried it last night. I was expecting a bitter or grape juice taste. What you might expect for $10. But was pleasantly surprised. The first taste was a bit sweet. Let it breath and it calms down. I got the cherry/berry taste, and a dry finish. I could drink this everyday for $10, or even $20. Recommend you give it a try.
George says
It definitely improved with air, as they recommend on the bottle. Good to try, maybe next years will be better.
Amm says
Maybe it’s just me but I wasn’t so keen on this wine.
Vendig Steven says
Thanks

YUMMM!!
Needs to breathe a bit. But opens up beautifully!
Great balance and depth.
Cheers!

I have cultivated a friendship with the Fron-End manager of my Costco Club and he is willing to look up any wine in the Atlanta Region. He tells me the location and the current inventory. Saves me a lot of time searching for a limited release.
Imscottl says
@Don Woods, has he stated if it’s in Atlanta yet?
S. Brick says
Got a bottle of the vaqueyras and it is very good. Will get some more if still available in Irmo area outside Columbia, sc. European taste. Light and drinkable.
Mo says
Nothing special about this bottle, either in price or flavor profile. Better Vacqueyras can be found at most large wine stores at the same point. I say this should be rated in the 86-88 range.

Got a couple at the Henrico, VA Costco today. Right out of the bottle it is underwhelming and a bit off tasting. But after just 30 minutes in the glass seems to develop and get a bit more interesting. Tasted some plum and cherry notes, and a bit of tannin. But I still prefer the Gigondas or the bit more expensive CdP. Nonetheless an interesting addition to the Kirkland collection.

For people in the Bay Area/SF: Saw about 7 bottles in the San Francisco Costco and tried one on 7/13/24. It was immediately pleasant and balanced--not too much acidity. Like many have said, maybe the Gigondas is a little better, but that was more expensive. The next day the Vacq tasted even better--with more mouthfeel. We felt this was a great $11 bottle that tastes like $20-30. We bought a case more down at South Airport Costco which has about 100 bottles still in stock. If it helps you callibrate, for Kirkland: we will happily drink Gigondas, CDPape, and Sonoma Old Vine Zin ($9.99). So-so on Soscol and Oakville Cabs. And don't like Chianti Riserva and some other <$10 wines we've tried.

Im definitely a newbie when it come to wine, but i have been trying to educate myself when it comes to french wines both through reading / watching video and of coarse trying/tasting many of the different regions. IMO this Kirkand Vacqueyras for $12 is a steal. Most other Vacqueyras that i have come across are in the $24-$38 range. So the price is very good. The body is a medium to light color with strong notes of black berries and cherries. I sipped on this while having some meatloaf / potatos (also from costco) and it pair just fine. This was a easy to drink with not a very strong linger on my pallet. For the price and taste i give this a strong buy!
JJ says
Just picked up a bottle at Kennesaw GA store. Looking forward to giving it a try.
Editor says
Thank you JJ. Just drove there and picked a few up. Hope to taste tonight and post review tomorrow. Cheers.
LB says
I really like this wine. LIke you say, I hope Costco adds a lot more French reds, particularly the rhones!

A bit of research via the name on the cork leads me to believe this is the wine / winery:

Even the Vacqueyras keys on the bottle match!
Excellent juice at a truly remarkable price since I'm seeing the "original" listed @ $26
Another winner from Kirkland wine!
