History of the Winery/AVA/Vineyard: Livermore Valley

Darcie Kent now proudly carries on the family tradition as a fifth generation vintner and artist for the winery that bears her name, Darcie Kent Vineyards. Like her great grandfather before her, Darcie uses her original art for her wine labels and strives to capture the unique spirit of each vineyard and its owner, in her breathtakingly beautiful labels that grace each bottle.

    Darcie Kent Dog Days Cab

Established in 1996, Darcie Kent Vineyards is a family-owned & operated winery in the Livermore Valley located East of the San Francisco Bay. Fifth Generation vintner/artist Darcie Kent and Hungarian-born winemaker Julian Halasz work in unison to handcraft small lot, single vineyard wines from sustainably farmed, family-owned vineyards in Monterey and the Livermore Valley. In addition to the wines sold at our winery, Darcie Kent Vineyards has been gradually expanding to restaurants nationwide for the past three years so be sure to ask for Darcie Kent wines at your favorite restaurants!

Special Note from the back label: “We share the vision of a world in which every animal is loved and every person knows the love of an animal. By working hand in hand with the local Valley Humane Society here in the Bay Area, we hope to bring together compassionate and dedicated people for the good of all. Darcie will donate $5 per bottle sold of this delicious Cabernet Sauvignon to help make the vision a reality.”

    Wine Maker: Julian Halasz

Costco Notes: This balanced wine starts out nice and gets better with each sip.  Aromas of red and black cherries lead to nervy black fruit and spice flavors. Light but the tannins firm up the texture in a subtle way.  Best through 2025.

    Left Coast Tasting Notes:

    Time on Gas: 36 hours

Color:  Medium color for a cabernet

Nose (aromas):   Nice bouquet, hints of fruit when it is first opened up. Putting this wine under gas did not improve the nose.

Palate (flavors): First opened it is smooth with a hint of fruit.  Tasting this wine after gas, initial taste of sour fruit. No is no “there-there” on the second tasting that was under gas.

    Grapes: Cabernet Sauvignon

Summary: This wine once opened should be consumed in total with a meal that consists of smoked meats, sausage, and pork. Due to the lack of complexity and tannins, this wine should be consumed in the next year or two, it will not age.

    Rating: Tuesday/Wednesday.
