This wine is a Costco staple summer white, and I usually enjoy them, especially when I’ve had my fill of Chardonnays and Sauvignon Blancs. I begin to hunt for different varietals. Albarino is a good choice for this, Gavi from Italy and Rhone whites from France.
This wine from King Estate doesn’t fall into the boring Pinot Grigio category many people will want to place it in, mostly because this wine has some nice body to it. It’s a light, easy drinker, and at $12.99 at Costco it’s certainly not a bad buy (The price has been higher in past vintages at Costco. It is usually around $15).
The wine is super clear; you can see through it. But it has some personality to it. The nose is rather muted, some aromas of wet rock, slate. In the mouth, things pick up; lemon, mango, citrus, green apple flavors, a bit of pineapple. Very fruity and crisp. Acidic, ok finish. Not a bad white for a hot day. It would be great on a boat.
This wine is made near my old stomping grounds of Eugene, OR. So I hold a little bias and tend to enjoy most things from that area. Go Ducks.
