2023 Kirkland Signature Cotes De Provence Rose

2023 Kirkland Signature Cotes De Provence Rose

We love seeing this one arrive in stores in May. That trend started with the last vintage, and it allows us to enjoy this bottle all summer long. Previously it was hitting shelves in July.

We also love seeing the price stay the same year to year at $7.99. That’s an absolute steal for a Provence Rose like this.

We’re pretty sure we’ve tasted and reviewed every vintage of this wine that’s been produced, going back to the 2016 vintage. And the scores have been remarkably consistent.

As we get into this new 2023 vintage, right away it seems familiar to years past, and our tasting notes align as well.

Light aromas of red berry fruit on the nose; in the mouth, nice strawberry, raspberry and pear flavor, touch of creamsicle; this wine is light, crisp and refreshing.

This vintage is right on par with last year. Not a big change, same winemaker too, and the makeup is virtually the same at: 36% Grenache, 28% Cinsault, 12% Syrah, 10% Vermentino, 5% Carignan, 5% Tibouren, and 4% Ugni Blanc.

Enjoy.

One thing to note is that a few readers saw some quality differences between bottles with the prior vintage. We’re not sure if that was an isolated incident, a storage issue or what, but it’s something to maybe be aware of if you’re swooping in for a case buy. We usually go through a handful of these bottles every year and have not had an issue.

I was disappointed with this vintage as I was with the 2022 vintage. I found the nose muted and the wine overall boring. I attribute this mostly due to the fairly high percentage of white wine grapes in the blend. Call me a purist but I believe a Rose should be made with 100% red grapes. 87 points.

@Burr, I also agree. Tasted very flat to me. Decent enough to make a rosé sangria but that’s about it. Rose is not expensive and for $10-$15 you can get something twice as interesting

@Burr, by my calculation, 96% of the grapes in this wine are red. I accept that isn't 100% but is darn near

Skittish after disappointing vintage for me last year, I bought one bottle to try. The 2023 rose is delicious and back on track for my summer enjoyment. I have since purchased (and taste tested!) more. Go for the case before this disappears!
