2022 Kirkland Signature Suscol Vineyard Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

Published: Mar 12, 2025 by Editor · 5 Comments

Kirkland Suscol Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon

Look what arrived a little early this year; what a surprise and a treat. This popular and always delicious Kirkland wine usually drops in the May timeframe.

This marks the fifth vintage of this wine so it's a relative newcomer to the Kirkland wine portfolio, but one of our favorites.

We are glad to see the price stay at $17.99 since it rose $1 last vintage from the previous price of $16.99. But this one is worth every penny, and this vintage is a stunner.

This wine has earned 91 points from us every year, with last year's 2021 vintage achieving the 92 point mark.

2018 vintage: 91 points

2019 vintage: 91 points

2020 vintage: 91 points

2021 vintage: 92 points

This new 2022 vintage though takes the cake. It is downright spectacular.

Similar appearance, aroma and notes as previous vintages, but it really comes together this year. Deep, dark ruby in the glass with classic Napa aromas; loads of dark fruit, blackberry, blueberry and plum; notes of vanilla and dark chocolate; perfect mouthfeel and finish.

This is just a delight to drink. The alcohol was also brought down to 13% from 14.5% in the 2021 vintage.

Same winemaker, Jeff McBride, who has made a real beauty this time around, and a wine that we recommend stocking up if you see it. This will fly off shelves. Cheers.

Oh joy! A Costco run would be in the works but thanks to the Costco app, there is no inventory just yet. I am happy to hear about the ABV level coming down. Hopefully the industry is getting the message that less is better!

I picked this up in Honolulu yesterday and tried one with my wife.
Surprisingly, it smelled a little like old wet cloths and earth. Reminded us of drinking a 1972 Cab a couple years back. Neither tasted bad - just had a kinda unpleasant smell. It drank ok. Kinda thin and wasnt impressed. For the money - Precision is much better. I have 2 more bottles and will try another soon to confirm.

Update - had the second bottle purchased same day from Costco Hawaii Kai and this one was enjoyable. It looks like there was a problem with the first bottle cork or something? The first one had an aged wet clothes smell. This second one was very nice. I would buy more at $18. Just wanted to update.

Anyone find this in Southern California? I've been checking my local Costco (Woodland Hills) for months now and it hasn't arrived. Strange considering they got the last vintage.

It’s so promising to see so many of the newer Kirkland wines get better and better vintage over vintage. It seems to be the exception when you rate a new vintage lower than the last, especially in the “specialty” Kirkland wines (Suscol, Oakville, CdP, Gigondas, etc.).
