This popular Kirkland wine is arriving right on schedule. We called it landing in December. The last vintage arrived in November and then we had some January drops before that. December was splitting the difference.
The Rutherford Cab is also one of our favorites every year, right alongside to the Oakville, Suscol and Stags Leap. It just amazes us that Costco continues to bring in wines from these premier regions right around that $20 sweet spot.
And you can see with the 2022 vintage of the Rutherford, we’re landing once again at $18.99, following suit with the last three vintages (it was $17.99 in its inaugural year of 2016).
We always buy a few the minute we see these. They can move fast, and it’s just a perfect bottle to have on hand for almost any occasion or cuisine.
Over the years, our scores have tilted towards the low 90’s, particularly with the past few vintages:
2016, 89 points
2018, 92 points
2019, 92 points
2021, 91 points
Tasting this 2022 vintage, the wine is once again a delight, landing right where we felt the 2021 hit.
It’s a medium to dark ruby in the glass, perfume and ripe fruit on the nose; as we noted last year, this wine delivers a good combination of red and dark fruit flavor; some black cherry, blackberry and plum; bell pepper, touch of spice and a good dose of vanilla into the lasting finish.
The wine definitely has more vanilla, and might be a little lighter in the mouth than the previous vintage. We’d say this wine is more of a “drink now” bottle, compared to the 2021 that was built to run for a few more years.
Overall, another winning year for this one. Slightly different than the prior vintage, but if you’ve enjoyed these wines in the past, this will once again be right up your alley.

Actually picked up a few at my local Phoenix area Costco. Can't leave it for that price.

@Cesar, did the same at a local NoVA store a few weeks ago (arrived in November in our area). Just checked the Costco app and my closest store is already out and the next nearest has low stock. If you find it, buy it!
Tangentially, another reader noted the arrival of the Kirkland Signature Series Premier Cru Chablis but I have yet to find it (or more likely missed it). Now that I am aware how to search a warehouse with the item number (thanks Andrew :-) ) it's a snap to check existence/availability at all local Costco warehouses.
Cheers!
