Sauvignon blanc fans who haven’t explored the terroir of Pouilly-Fume are really missing out. Here’s a nice place to start that exploration for $20.
We’ve tasted and reviewed a few bottles from J de Villebois, including another very good Sauvignon Blanc from Touraine and their basic Pinot Noir which was decent.
We found those wines at Costco for very competitive prices, and this Pouilly-Fume follows suit. Online this bottle is going for $25-$35, and it was $19.99 at Costco. Solid scores from the critics as well.
Getting into the wine, it pours a pale yellow in the glass with stone fruit, wet rock on the nose; big flavor of peach, pear, lime, moving towards grapefruit towards finish; little sweetness and good body, mineral notes into a lasting finish.
Lots to like here, especially as the weather begins to turn towards summer. Very food friendly as well. An exciting new find from a producer who seems to consistently deliver, and we welcome more of their wines at Costco.
