2021 Kirkland Signature Bordeaux Superieur

Published: Dec 2, 2023 · Modified: Jan 19, 2025 by Editor ·

2021 Kirkland Signature Bordeaux Superieur

Here’s the new Kirkland Bordeaux Superieur arriving in stores right on time. For a while it was a Jan – Feb wine, but lately it’s been hitting in December. That’s good news if you’re looking for an inexpensive red to stock up on for the holidays.

We instantly went to the price, $6.99 again, which is awesome.  The price had risen a couple bucks a few years ago, but appears to have settled in that $7 sweet spot where we hope it stays.

2021 Kirkland Signature Bordeaux Superieur

Let’s take a peek at our past ratings for this bottle:

2015: 87 points

2016: 87 points

2018: 85 points

2019: 88 points

2020: 87 points

Pretty respectable across most of the vintages.

And for this 2021 bottle, we have the same varietal makeup as the past couple of years, consisting of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot.

Getting into the wine, it has a nice, aromatic nose that is earthy with some dark fruit; in the mouth flavors of blackberry, black cherry and plum some black licorice; tight tannins, pretty good finish.

2021 Kirkland Signature Bordeaux Superieur

This remains a good basic Bordeaux, perfect as an everyday table wine and it won’t break the bank. We’ll keep our rating the same as the prior vintage at 87.

Costco Item Number: 1184548

The Kirkland Bordeau is weak and not worth buying. The Chianti Classico is better.

@Patrick O'Leary, I found it to be smooth, rich and delicious for drinking alone or with a pasta dish. Of course taste is very personal but it is a great price and I am still trying to find it in my Costco in the Boston, MA area.

We have for the last 3 to 4 years ask our Costco store why over all those years did they stop getting in the Italian Red Wines. There's like 17 of us that bought our Italian Sweet Red wines there and we are upset that you still leave Italian's sweet red wines out! We have ask the store employees over years and they blamed the person that orders. They said that she or he didn't like sweet reds so they don't order them anymore. That is ridiculous needless to say! Last time we got it we wished we'd have bought 20 bottles instead of 6! So irritating that they don't care about what we want or like! Some say it's leaving Italians out...

Very happy to find this wine at Costco in Surprise, AZ, this evening for $6.89 (10 cents cheaper). It's a terrific table wine for the price and I intend to stock up. Agree it seems the same flavor/aroma as last year.

I heard that it was pulled from shelves for quality issue. Not a recall but just bad quality.

I bought the last 10 cases in Western WA because I was told it was being discontinued. No better house wine for the price. I hope something comparable comes along to replace it.
