Today we’re exploring the cheap seats again and we love finding these random French bottles that make their way in there at really low prices.
Here’s a Bordeaux Superieur with a few years built in for $5.99. Looks to be closer to $10 most places online and it received 91 points from Wine Enthusiast which is impressive.
After we got into it, we found a decent and very drinkable wine. Now, not 91 points good. It’s a little rough on the initial pour but once this wine sees some air, it opens up into decent wine that Bordeaux fans should try.
Medium body; nice acidity matched with dark fruit; black cherry, blackberry and plum; a little flat mid palate if we’re getting picky and the finish has some bite. But once you get going, it’s not hard to keep going.
This is a good mid-week bottle to throw on the table when you’re looking for something low key and inexpensive to sip on.

Is bordeaux cabernet savignon? If some is but not all, then is this one cabernet savignon?

Good question Frank. Depends on the area of Bordeaux. Gets confusing but it’s a study in geography. Super short answer: There’s a river in Bordeaux (Garonne). Left side is more Cab based. Right side more Merlot. But they are usually blends of both those grapes along with some others. Makeup varies by region. This one is Cabernet based. There’s a great book all about this (wink wink) http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1479303186/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=1479303186&linkCode=as2&tag=blogroomcom-20&linkId=MJFZQR2336IY4QI4
