2018 Louis Latour Pouilly-Fuisse

2018 Louis Latour Pouilly-Fuisse

This wine is a huge score at Costco. There are so many good things going on right from the get go and the wine is delicious too.

First off, Louis Latour is one of the biggest names in Burgundy wine, and this bottle is on the lower end of what they produce. That said, this wine also has a retail price around $33, and Costco is selling it for $17.99, essentially half price.

Also worth noting is the region. Wines from Burgundy, red and white, can get very expensive, very fast. But, and I noted this in our French wine book, Pouilly Fuisse is part of Burgundy’s Maconnais region, which is a great place to look for value. And this bottle is the perfect example.

Let’s dig into the wine, which is made from Chardonnay. In the glass it pours a medium yellow to gold color; citrus fruit on nose with flavors of white peach, green apple, pineapple and lemon; medium body. There’s nice acidity with a tarty finish that goes on forever.

This is a super versatile wine for summertime cuisine and could pair with almost anything. Or be enjoyed just fine on its own.

After my tasting I brought the rest of the bottle to a dinner party and shared a bit with four other people, a couple of which I know aren’t typically huge Chardonnay fans (I didn’t tell them what it was). And everyone enjoyed it.

Chardonnay from Burgundy is hard to beat, and really hard to find at a reasonable price, but Costco did it again with this bottle.

Can you please tell me what Costco you found the Torre la Moreira Albariño at? I’m also in Atlanta and recently had this at a restaurant and loved it!

Kennesaw for sure, I’ve seen it recently. And I believe Cumberland, maybe Woodstock.

I read that 95% of wines from Maconnais are usually unoaked. Do you know if the Louis Latour Pouilly Fuisse is oaked or unoaked? I would like to know so that I can COSTCO wine customers about it. I work for ORVINO, but I assist everyone with any wines. Been laid off since Covid started. hope we can go back to work pretty soon. I really like assisting people with wines.
