This is the second wine from a top Bordeaux property in the Pessac-Leognan region which we adore.
Costco's price is pretty good considering retail is around $35. We've tasted the grand vin wine from this property multiple times, and have always enjoyed it, so we were curious how this second wine would fare.
It is also from the highly regarded 2018 vintage in Bordeaux so that's a bonus. The wine received a nice 93 point score from Wine Enthusiast.
The blend in this wine is: 58% Merlot, 35% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot.
The wine is a medium to deep purple in the glass, with aromas of dark fruit and dried herbs; blackberry, cherry, plum and licorice flavors; soft tannins starting to relax after a few years of age; nice acidity with some minerality throughout; medium to medium plus in body, solid finish.
This is a fun Costco find, and is drinking really nice right now; sure it could age a few more years, but these second wines are typically meant to drink younger. Buy their first wine for the cellar, and drink this one now.

Costco in Birmingham AL has started requiring an ID to show age to buy alcohol. Once I asked them to check with a manager, and the manager said need ID. I'm clearly old enough be legal age. Is this a policy at all Costco, or just Bham?

Many Bordeaux estates will have multiple "levels" of bottles they offer. The Grand Vin is the top dog, best grapes from that vintage and likely older vines, built to age. Second and third wines come after the Grand Vin, can use younger vines, and blends can be different as well; built to be consumed earlier. These wines can be excellent values because they are made by these top name producers but often a fraction of the price as the Grand vin.
