I had to snap this one up at what ends up being a ridiculously low price for some Columbia Valley juice. Costco’s normal price is $11.99, but through 11/22 you can get $4.50 off which brings it down to $7.49.
I found the same bottle for $10.97 at my Total Wine and online it’s hovering anywhere from $12-$16. So Costco’s standard price is just ok, but the discounted price is pretty compelling, especially considering that what’s inside turned out to be pretty good.
We wrote a feature on Washington State wine recently and highlighted quite a few winners we’ve found at Costco lately (Wines of Substance CS Cabernet is a highlight).
This 4 Cellars Cabernet is good, very drinkable, and perfect as an everyday bottle, but is perhaps a slight notch below some of the others we feature in that story; but of course, those wines cost a little bit more too.
The wine pours a deep ruby in the glass with black fruit on the nose. In the mouth are flavors of black cherry and blackberry, touch of cherry with dark chocolate and vanilla notes; big in body and flavor, fruit forward with a pleasant finish.
There’s nothing not to like here; this wine is well presented, especially for the low price. I’d scoop a few up to have on hand for a mid-week dinner, or second bottle on the night, or around a fire pit; there’s some versatility here.
