2017 Kirkland Signature Sonoma County Old Vine Zinfandel

2017 Kirkland Signature Sonoma County Old Vine Zinfandel

Here’s a perfect spring wine, especially if you’re stuck at home and plan on firing up the grill. This bottle is perfect to pair with grilled meats, BBQ ribs, pulled pork, etc. We enjoyed it with a nice pork tenderloin on the Big Green Egg.

It’s been a little while since we reviewed this bottle, the last review being of the 2015 vintage that we rated 90 points.

I don’t think the new 2017 vintage is far behind, and we are happy to see the price stay consistent at $9.99. If you like juicy reds and are looking for value under $10, here’s a good pick for you.

The wine pours a medium purple in the glass and you can almost see a finger through it; nose of baking spice, clove, nutmeg; medium plus in body with the jammy, grape jelly and spicy fruit you expect from a big Zin.

There’s a touch of vanilla in the finish leaving a lingering taste like you’ve just taken a bite of a blueberry cream pie.

Costco usually carries a couple of solid Zins if this sounds like your thing. You can find all of our Zin reviews here. A great one a little further upstream is the Seghesio that I always love.

Enjoy another great Kirkland wine find.

The 2016 was much better than the 2017, just sad there's no more 2016 available!

I buy wine weekly at Costco. This was the only bottle I have ever returned after two sips. I assume it was simply a "bad" bottle. After reading your review, I will give this one another try. Thanks for the review.

That’s a bummer. Yes, try another one for sure.
