Just a few weeks ago we reviewed the Cune Albarino and mentioned in that post how much we enjoyed the red wines from Cune.
And then our latest trip to Costco, we found this one, and as a bonus it’s a Gran Reserva. Can’t beat that, and for $20, which is a fantastic price for Rioja of this designation.
Online we see retail prices for this bottle around $42 with some discounted options around $30, so Costco is giving us a very competitive price.
This wine is a blend of 85% Tempranillo, 10% Graciano and 5% Mazuelo. As you would expect from a Gran Reserva that has some nice age (these wines spend at least 2 years in oak and 3 years in the bottle), this wine is elegant and classy.
The wine pours a nice medium ruby in the glass, perfume, earth and dried red fruit on the nose; great mouth feel, medium bodied and tannic; flavors of cherry and plum with notes of leather and oak; delicious finish.
All around a superb wine at a great Costco price. A nice addition to our Recommended Wines list.
