2015 Nobilo Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc

2015 Nobilo Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc

Here’s just a quick mid-week review on a wine that is a summer staple in our household.  It’s only $7.99 and when the Atlanta heat kicks into gear, it’s time to go to Marlborough to cool down.  I know this isn’t the highest quality wine in the world, but for a “time and place wine,” which in this case means hot weather and good friends, this wine just always hits the spot as it does right now.

Similar notes to the 2014 vintage of this wine.  Pours a super light yellow, grassy, grapefruit, tart nose with similar flavor and a mega dose of acidity as these wines tend to deliver.  Flavors of apricot, grapefruit, lemon, tons of tart, sour.  Super refreshing from start to finish.  For what this wine aims to be, it really is spot on.  Don’t think too much, drink outside, and enjoy.

The Nobilo SB is, of course, produced in huge quantities. This results in quite a bit of quality variation within one vintage year I've noticed. Buy it in one city and then another time elsewhere and it can be quite different. Well, the 2015 Nobilo SB bought here in Charleston is the poorest I can remember over many vintages. Ditto the 2015 Kirkland Marlborough Ti Point. Took the bottles back to the store. The 2016 Ti Point has arrived here and it is excellent. For me, the best Ti Point yet. I wonder if it is as good in Atlanta.
