2015 Kirkland Signature Mendoza Malbec

2015 Kirkland Signature Mendoza Malbec

There aren’t a lot of wines priced at $6.99 that you would readily recommend to someone, but there are a handful of Kirkland bottles that always seem to fit that bill, the Kirkland Malbec being one of them (others could include the Kirkland Cotes du Rhone Villages, Chianti Classico, and Rioja).

Love the new label by the way, the jagged ascending mountain edge being a sign of the wine’s high altitude origins.  Actually we’re seeing quite a few new labels on the Kirkland wines which is a welcome change from the generic grape cluster image that graced most Kirkland wines over the past decade or so.

But on to the wine.  We have a nice mid week bottle here, something you can pair with about any meal, and a wine that most anyone can sip, not paying too much attention to what’s going on, and will definitely have a great time the longer they go.  There’s something to be said for that.

Nose is fresh and juicy; the wine has reasonable alcohol at 13% and it feels great in the mouth.  There’s not a ton of depth but that’s to be expected because again, you only paid $7.  It’s simple, straightforward, entirely one dimensional, with a little blast of red fruit, cherry with a light dusting of oak into a pretty quick finish.

I’m ok with this wine because it’s exactly what it promises to be and comes in at a price point where few other drinkable wines can land.  Not the best Mendoza Malbec out there, but since you’re only paying half of what many of those other ones cost, you’re scoring pretty good as far as I’m concerned.

I had a question. Is there a way to find out the nutritional content for this wine? Mainly the carbs and sugar grams.

I am not aware of a way to gauge that besides comparing to similar bottles you might find info for online. Sorry.

Hi -- would you permit some of your Kirkland wine reviews (and other non Kirkland wines) to be posted at the Strongsville, Ohio, warehouse. I am an employee of that Costco location, and very much enjoy your blog.

Thanks.
