2014 Kirkland Signature Series Premier Cru Chablis

2014 Kirkland Signature Series Premier Cru Chablis

When this bottle hit Costco stores, I received countless emails from readers wanting to get our take on it.  Sorry we were slow to the party here, but for some reason I couldn’t find this wine at any of my Atlanta Costco stores (I’m also looking for the ’14 KS Chateauneuf that I’ve heard is also out right now).  Then all of a sudden I found this wine everywhere.  So I’m happy to bring you my report.

For a Premier Cru Chablis, and I should note that I am a big fan of white Burgundies of all sorts, this one came up a little short for me.  It’s a nice style of Chardonnay and overall is not a bad wine at all.  If this was branded as something other than a Premier Cru I would rate it a bit higher, but still at $15.00, it’s not a bad drink.  It’s just simple, one dimensional, short, but pleasant at the same time.

Color is straw yellow; aromas of citrus fruit, lemon peel, loads of lemon flavor thoughout this wine.  Touches of pineapple, sour apple and grapefruit. Highly acidic and tarty, clean and pure without oak influence so the flavors really come through.  For readers looking for a summer white to enjoy with a salad or fish, this is a good pick.  If you’re looking for a Premier Cru Chablis for a bargain you might find yourself empty handed here.

I’d also like to share a few other reviews on this wine since it seems to really have divided readers. Please also read reviews of this bottle on: CellarTracker and TheFermentedFruit.

I really liked this actually. I found it to be very crisp and refreshing on a warm day abs it definitely got better with time. I have never had this type of wine before and often prefer buttery chards over crisp ones but, I will definitely pick up another bottle of this if still available.

Thanks for the info. For a few bucks more you can get quality Chablis if you hunt.

Another disappointed and surprised Costco shopper, we are Chablis and Macon lovers. Of 4 bottles (2 from Fl, 2 from Al) all disappointing and very similar--little minerality and subdued fruit. Have had better village and Petit Chablis.

Couldn't agree MORE with these comments: GOOD value for an apparently unoaked Chard, yet sans "real" Chablis character. [BTW, I began the strand on CellarTracker.]
